Dessert of the Week Mochi Ice Cream

$2.50, I Love Sushi, 368 S. State Street

I have a confession that I know is going to make me sound like an idiot. I thought mochi was a flavor of ice cream. I ordered it from the dessert menu at I Love Sushi because I thought it was an ice cream flavor I'd never tried. Our server said it came in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors and my poor little brain was flummoxed. We ordered vanilla and when it came, realized it is a Japanese confection. It is made from mochi, pounded sticky rice, which forms a soft, dough-like shell, with an ice cream filling. We both loved it and will order it wherever we can find it.
