Local art from illustrators of all ages will line the walls of the County Library’s Bingham Creek branch and explode onto social media during October 2018. The County Library will take part in Inktober, a grassroots effort to encourage and improve drawing. Participants will draw a picture every day, and are encouraged to bring it to the Library’s Bingham Creek branch to be displayed, or simply hang it on the refrigerator.

Pumpkins will serve as weapons to defend against a pretend space alien attack at Salt Lake County's favorite Halloween festival, Pumpkinpalooza, Oct. 27, 2018. A trebuchet will be used to launch pumpkins almost 100 feet through the air as space aliens attack the imaginary pumpkin-crazy town of Gourdington.

Meet local authors, participate in writing workshops and enjoy panel discussions at our main event on Saturday, November 3, with an industry panel. The kickoff and reception on Friday night this year is "Battle of the Genres." Author-led workshops, signings and panels continue from 1-6 pm on Saturday. Looking for something to do Saturday morning? Attend the Picture Book Party at 9:30 am. Books will be available for purchase and signing throughout the event.

The state's largest convention to connect local authors will take place at the Salt Lake County Library's Viridian Event Center, Nov. 2-3, 2018. Attendees will mingle with more than 60 authors and participate in writing workshops led by some of the area’s most-prestigious writers. The kickoff and reception Nov. 2 will feature "Battle of the Genres," a three-person debate aimed to persuade audience members to cheer for one of three literary genres. Also new this year, attendees may participate in one or more of our panel discussions on Nov. 3, focusing on industry trends, writing for kids, genre blending, self-publishing and author influences.
