LIBBY GARDNER CONCERT HALL
Thursday September 18th, 2014 - 7:30 pm
The Phil opens its season with a concert bursting with charm and mystery, conducted by Robert Baldwin. The program features Elgar's Enigma Variations, which he dedicated to "my friends pictured within," and each section of the work is a witty, affectionate portrayal of one of the composer's intimates. Doctoral student flutist, Nadine Luke, takes center stage for Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2, an energizing romp filled with stylized French dances. Also featured is Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question, an existential call-and-response between the orchestra and solo trumpet. Visit music.utah.edu/events/index.php#/?i=1 for information.
