The Orem Public Library will present Joe Flores of Maxed Out Puppetry and a score of other puppeteers in the Orem City Center Courtyard, Sept. 20, 2014. Puppeteers will give puppet performances starting every 15 minutes.

Susan Howe, poet, playwright, and professor of English at BYU, will lead a writing workshop at the library Sept. 23, 2014. Professor Howe will share her experiences in writing poetry and prose, give writing tips and advice, and discuss how to create poems that are powerful and effective. Free copies of the 2014 Orem Reads featured book, Robert Pinsky's "Singing School," will be available after this event, one per household, while supplies last.

Katharine Coles, internationally read poet and professor of creative writing and poetry at University of Utah, will give a reading of her poetry and discuss her adventures in writing poetry across the globe.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Wasatch Range Chapter of Utah Valley will sponsor a Genealogical Workshop to assist potential members in identifying their American Revolutionary Ancestor on Sept. 27, 2014. The workshop will be led by LeAnn Eliason, Chapter Registrar and Karen Hyer, Chapter Treasurer. After the workshop, there will be a NSDAR Wasatch Range Chapter meeting from 1-2 p.m. The special guest speaker will be Utah State Regent Judy Barking. Music will be provided pianist Ludmila Gudnina. Alex Caldiero, local sonosopher, poet, and UVU Artist in Residence, will visit the library Sept. 30, 2014, for the penultimate event of Orem Reads 2014. In keeping with this year's theme of poetry, Caldiero will explore the words, sights, and sounds of poetry and perform a poetry reading.
