EVENTS at
TAYLORSVILLE LIBRARY

Tuesday May 2nd, 2017 - 7:00 pm
Constitutional Reverence or Democratic Faith? James Madison and Herbert Croly on a Perennial American Debate A lecture with Professor Carl Eric Scott where we will contrast the thought of two distinctly American political thinkers, James Madison and Herbert Croly, on the question of what our proper attitude toward the Constitution ought to be. Professor Scott's talk will revisit this fundamental debate about the proper "political creed" for America with a view to better understand our Constitution and how attitudes toward it continue to shape our present political divisions. Carl Eric Scott is the assistant director for Utah Valley University’s (UVU) Center for Constitutional Studies. He has a PhD in political science and has taught at a number of institutions. He currently teaches at UVU. This program is one of several "continued conversations," that started at the What Every American Should Know event, held at the Library's Viridian Event Center on January 30. #WeAsk #KeepTalkingSLC
